Warung Ibu Eny, Seminyak
Warung Ibu Eny is tucked away on the famous Petitenget street in Seminyak. Its leafy offering-scattered entrance and modest wooden furnishing make it a cozy spot to enjoy local food. Try their signature nasi campur, which can feature anything from whole roasted chicken in a betutu-style sauce to garlic and chilli-infused stir-fried water spinach, spicy pork steamed in banana leaves, deep-fried tempeh or braised tofu.

Liku Ayam Betutu, Kuta
Betutu – chicken or duck wrapped in the banana bark with a mix of coconut oil and spices, and smoked for a day in an earthenware pot – is one of the great dishes of Balinese cuisine. Because it’s complex and time-consuming to prepare, you won’t often find it at your average Indonesian restaurant, but a small garage-like warung on Jalan Nakula, just outside Kuta, offers one of the finest versions on the island.

Warung Makan Teges, Ubud
Located amongst the lush tropical gardens, in a traditional Balinese house, Teges serves best home-style Balinese cooking. Best-seller – nasi campur traditionally served on a banana leaf lending an appetizing aroma to the rice. Nasi campur here comes with two options — chicken or pork — all minced and cooked together with vegetables in coconut milk. The true highlight of the meal is the devilishly spicy sambal matah, the sauce made from fresh chili pods and sliced shallots and lime leaves.

This warung specialises in just one dish- nasi ikan (fish and rice). Snapper cutlet, deep-fried and served with rice and a bowl of fish-head soup with green papaya,

As frequent visitors to Canggu, we just love Old Man’s. After-surf drinks, sunset gigs, traditional beer garden bites and chill-out vibes all just few steps away from the shimmering black sands of Batu Bolong beach- what else could we ask.
Gaze at the stars from the plush sofas enjoying a glass of wine or sip margaritas by the bar mingling with fellow travellers and local expat crowd. Head down for some fun in the sand or rent a colorful long board and test your skills.
Aussie artist Lucas Grogan added funky vibes to Old Man’s with his signature blue murals, which act as a magnet for curious kids and art savvy adults.

Thinking of booking your family villa stay in Sri Lanka? Here’s what you need to know about travelling to this magically diverse island in the Indian Ocean.
Sri Lanka’s climate is tropical and affected by two monsoons. Between November and April, the south and west coasts and hill country are generally dry and sunny whilst the Maha monsoon brings rain to the north and east coasts and Cultural Triangle. The Yala monsoon conversely affects the south and west coasts between May and October, offering a mix of sunshine and showers, whilst fine weather and calm seas dominate the north and east. The temperature across Sri Lanka remains around 28-32 degrees for much of the year with a high degree of humidity (sometimes as much as 90% before the monsoon) in the lusher south-westerly regions. The mercury in the high-altitude hills can drop to single figures at night. Despite its terminology, the monsoon season rarely incurs full days of rain – rather the weather is quick to change. Dramatic monsoonal showers typically break out in the afternoons or evenings and usually last an hour or two before the sun breaks out again. As such, some of the best deals are to be had by travelling in this so-called ‘low season’.
The currency across the island is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) although many hotels display their rates in US dollars, which is the island’s preferred foreign currency. Notes range from LKR10 to LKR5,000 and coins from one rupee to ten. At current exchange rates, US$1 is equal to LKR130; GBR£1 to LKR200; EUR1 to LKR175; HK$1 to LKR17.5; and AUS$1 to LKR95. ATMs are widespread across the island and all major currencies and traveller’s checks can be exchanged in Sri Lanka, as well as at authorised currency exchange counters in banks. Credit cards are accepted in up-market stores, hotels and restaurants, but beyond that most transactions (including tuk tuk and taxi fares) are cash-based. Having notes in a various range of denominations handy is useful.
Sri Lanka is five and a half hours ahead of GMT and shares the same time zone as India, its closest neighbour. Sri Lanka is two and a half hours behind Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Hong Kong, and one and a half hours ahead of Dubai. Most cities in central mainland Europe are four and a half hours behind.

It’s this curiosity that Monsieur Spoon co-founder Greg recognised in his own children and the children that come into his bakeries, and that led to the launch of baking classes at Monsieur Spoon.
“I want kids to come into the kitchen, meet the bakers, touch the dough and see the caramel being made. I want them to understand that baking and cooking are an art and that they can all be artists” says Greg.
